Kamika Ekadashi 2021 First Ekadashi of Sawan 4th August

The Ekadashi that falls during the auspicious month of Shravan Krishna Paksha is known as the Kamika Ekadashi. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the first observance falling during the chaturmas, the Kamika Ekadashi follows the earlier Shayani Ekadashi. All sins are pardoned by the observance of the Ekadashi during this chaturmas period and the worshipping of Lord Vishnu believing the fact that the natives attain moksha. Therefore, the Kamika Ekadashi also helps in relieving Pitra Dosha, also known as the Pavitra Ekadashi.

Kamika Ekadashi Puja Vidhi

Early morning bath followed by the vows for the fast and worshipping of Lord Vishnu thereon.

Fruits, flowers, sesame seeds, milk, and Panchamrita are offered to the Lord.

Lord Vishnu’s name is recited followed by recitation of Vishnu Sahasranam and prayers.

Food and donations are offered to Brahmins the next day on Dwadashi.

Kamika Ekadashi Vrat Vidhi

During the Mahabharata period, Dharmaraaj Yudhishtra requested Shri Krishna to tell him the story and importance of Kamika Ekadashi. Lord Krishna said to Yudhishtra that Brahmaji himself had narrated the story to Devrishi Narad and he would also do so.

Brahmaji said, “O Narad, just by listening to the story of Kamika Ekadashi Vrat Katha, fruits of Vajpayee Yagya are attained”. Shanka Chakra and Gadadhari Lord Vishnu are worshipped on this auspicious day.
