What exactly are hormones?

Hormones are chemical messengers that are secreted into the bloodstream and delivered to the body's organs and tissues to perform their duties. Hormones affect various biological functions and processes in a variety of ways.

For the sake of clarity, we can divide them into 3 groups.

Thyroid hormones: They influence metabolism and body activities during development and growth.

Sex hormones: Estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, FSH, and LH.

Stress hormones: Adrenaline, cortisol, and DHEA are the hormones that impact insulin and metabolism.

Hormone Imbalance Indications:

Hormone imbalances can manifest in a variety of ways since hormones play such an important part in so many body functions.

Major pressures and life situations can cause an imbalance, and some of these events are transient, such as pregnancy and nursing. Others (to mention a few) are the result of a buildup of chronic stress, intestinal imbalances, dietary deficiencies, and pollutants. Here are some of the most common warning signs:

  • Fatigue

  • Hair thinning & loss

  • Hard to reduce weight

  • Bloating

  • Dehydrated skin

  • Difficulties with sugar levels

  • Difficulty in sleeping

  • Constipation

  • Acne

  • Headaches

Hormone Imbalances: What Causes Them?

Stress is a major cause of hormonal imbalance. Women have it worse than males since they are constantly juggling work and family life. According to a study, women are exposed to 6-8 times more stress daily than males. The following are some of the most common sources of stress:

  • Stimulants and caffeine

  • MJ and alcohol

  • Unbalanced gut

  • Nutrition shortages

  • Thyroid problems

  • Liver problemS

  • Medications on prescription

  • Problems with blood sugar

  • Lack of sleep

  • Fast-paced lifestyle

The Doshas' role in hormonal Imbalance:

The doshas, Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, all have a role in your hormonal wellness, much as your hormones are an interaction of organs and systems.

  • The nerve system, Vata, and stress

Vata is likely the most critical dosha to address. The adrenals and hormones are intimately linked to Vata and the neurological system.

  • Pitta, chemical reactions, the liver, and the blood

Hormones are Pitta's area from a chemical standpoint. Pitta is engaged in all biochemical bodily processes, including digestive enzymes, cellular enzymes, and hormones.

  • Mucus, Kapha, and heaviness

Kapha builds up as a result of a sedentary lifestyle and a heavy diet, slowing digestion and finally obstructing the release of nutrients and waste. An imbalanced Kapha can also be a major cause to slow thyroid, bloating, etc.

Hormone Healing in an Ayurvedic Perspective:

Begin by determining the individual's Prakriti (mind-body composition) and Vikriti (state of imbalance). From there, we start to sleep, wake, move and eat consciously by the earth's natural rhythm. We enhance the digestive system, or Agni, and encourage the evacuation of toxins and wastes. We feed the body with well-balanced food that is appropriate for the season and constitution. We also infuse pleasure and joy into our daily routines, rituals, and connections.

Conclusion:

The ancient physicians recognized how our organs and body systems, such as the thyroid, pancreas, testes, and ovaries, interacted to keep us healthy. By balancing the doshas, they were able to address hormonal concerns like PMS, diabetes, and thyroid disease. We can simply avoid our hormones becoming imbalanced by paying attention to regulating the intake and outthrow of substances in the body. We can also regulate our hormones by creating harmony between our bodies and our minds.
